Press release

New solo album - 'Acoustic Guitar 2' - 24 years later
Released to coincide with the CD re-issue of 'Acoustic Guitar'

A little history
In 1980, when guitarist Finn Olafsson released his first all-instrumental, acoustic solo album, 'Acoustic Guitar', he had hopes that, within the foreseeable future, he would be able to record a follow-up album of similarly orientated acoustic guitar music. As it turned out, 'Acoustic Guitar' was a success - artistically and commercially. From an artistic point of view, the album managed to clarify the basic structure of the music. Furthermore, the LP sold well. Lots of aspiring guitarists were inspired by the music and many used the tunes to develope their own playing. The fact that the album was published in sheet music form in 1980 no doubt helped them in their endeavour.

Now,
twenty-four years later, the follow-up 'Acoustic Guitar 2' is finally ready for release. This record shows an even more concentrated expression, since the album is recorded strictly solo - one guitarist, one steel-string guitar throughout. In other words: No overdubs! It may seem hard to understand why such a long span of years had to pass, but Finn Olafsson had a full schedule: He produced and played on more than a hundred records by other artists. He also embarked on a close collaboration with guitarist Anders Roland, a format which he still uses to express his acoustic guitar music.

The music
is, as on 'Acoustic Guitar', composed by Finn Olafsson himself. It is difficult to label music, unless it obviously belongs to a set genre. At the heart of Finn Olafsson's particular brand of guitar music lies many years of dedication as a composer, guitarist and producer in a highly diversified musical environment, in which the individual touch has always superceded the labels of genre. The sum total of all this can be heard on the 'Acoustic Guitar' CDs. If you want to label it, 'acoustic guitar music' might do fine.

The guitars
On 'Acoustic Guitar 2', Finn Olafsson exclusively plays Danish handmade Kehlet Guitars by Ole Kehlet. These unique guitars have provided Finn Olafsson with invaluable inspiration, and they have been crucial for the final expression, both as far as the actual sound and the composition is concerned. In the CD booklet, details of the guitars are shown, and the various models and tunings are described for each track.

'Acoustic Guitar' re-issued
To coincide with the release of 'Acoustic Guitar 2', Olafssongs is also re-issueing 'Acoustic Guitar' from 1980, in a re-mastered version containing four new bonus tracks. Three of those have previously been recorded on Finn Olafsson's third solo album, 'Elements', while the fourth is a special version of the tune 'The Eternal Journey', featuring Anders Roland on bouzouki and Torsten Olafsson on tablas.

Books
For the benefit of those who would like to play the tunes, all titles from 'Acoustic Guitar' have been reissued by Olafssongs Music Publishers in a new book, including, tablature and illustrations. A similar book, including all titles from 'Acoustic Guitar 2' will be published in 2006.

"Blues" - press release

NEW ALBUM BY ANDERS ROLAND & FINN OLAFSSON

As the title of the CD indicates, the two musicians have explored new areas on their fifth studio album. Here’s a few words from them about ‘Blues’:

‘In the early summer of 2005, we began recording ‘Blues’. We didn’t have a clear roadmap for the things we were going to do – just a vague feeling that something would be different. It soon dawned on us that we felt a deep joy just by recording live in the studio – without too many hi-tech tricks. So we decided that this would be a simple album, with built-in freedom in the compositions. We wanted to accommodate tranquillity and improvisation. The only other musician recording with us is percussionist Jacob Andersen who is on all our albums, ever since our debut, ‘Sight-seeing’ from 1984.

Something else became clear to us after recording the first tracks – the unmistakeable bluesy feeling. Not your straight, traditional blues – but even so, more than just a touch. We thought it was sufficient to call this album ‘Blues’. This is meant as a tribute to all the sincere, hand-played roots which still mean so much to the both of us.’

The album features Anders Roland on acoustic guitar, slide guitar, violin and bouzouki and mandolin, Finn Olafsson on acoustic guitar and dobro, while Jacob Andersen appears on percussion like on all the previous albums.

Background
Anders Roland & Finn Olafsson’s collaboration dates back to 1984.
3 albums – ‘Sight-seeing‘ (1984), ‘Holidays‘ (1986) and ‘Globetrotter‘ (1988) – and hundreds of concerts established Anders Roland & Finn Olafsson as the leading steel string guitar duo in Denmark.

They also composed music for lots of television and film – one noted example being their contribution to the TV series ‘Johansens sidste ugudelige dage’ (‘The Final Ungodly Days of Johanson‘) from 1989. The series yielded the radio hit ‘Himlen over dig’ (‘The Sky Above You‘), sung by Jytte Pilloni.

In 1990, the duo decided to take a break – which would last eleven years! They resumed their collaboration in 2001, marking the occasion by releasing the compilation ‘Back to the Present‘ and their fourth album ‘DUO‘ in 2003. This was followed by a long tour. Since then, the duo has worked on the music for the new album, ‘Blues‘, recorded in 2005/2006

Anders Roland & Finn Olafsson will perform live in the fall of 2006 and the winter/spring of 2007.
